Philips Partners with Hologic to Pioneer New Women’s Healthcare Technologies

On March 2nd, 2018, two of the healthcare industry’s most passionate innovators announced they are joining forces to improve women’s health across the globe.

As one of the most respected names in consumer electronics, as well as a valued EDX partner, Philips has recently been making moves to concentrate on the healthcare industry.

In 2016, for example, Philips spun off their famed lighting division into a separate IPO, thus turning it into the largest stand-alone lighting company in the world. One year later, they followed up this development by announcing the acquisition of US-based Spectranetics Corp. — a manufacturer of devices to treat heart disease — for €1.9 billion (approximately $2.34 billion).

Philips’ latest partnership with Hologic — an innovative medical technology company specializing in diagnostics, breast health, GYN Surgical procedures, and skeletal health for women — continues this exciting trend, and both patients and the healthcare industry as a whole are poised to benefit.

“No two women are alike, and we are teaming up with care providers and leading industry partners to support a tailored, seamless breast care experience for women,” says Rob Casella, CEO of diagnosis & treatment businesses for Philips. “This partnership allows us to offer a complete set of diagnostic imaging systems, software and services to our customers, including Hologic’s market-leading mammography solutions for breast screening and diagnosis of women in need of care.”

Hologic is quick to reflect Philips’ sentiment. “Our market-leading mammography solutions perfectly complement Philips’ portfolio, making Hologic the right industry partner for this first-of-its-kind collaboration,” says division president Pete Valenti. “Now, through the partnership, Hologic can join Philips when engaging with customers on projects that were not previously possible for the two companies alone. It’s a win for everyone involved, including the customers and patients we serve.”

EDX has been honored to provide Philips with obsolescence management solutions, and we look forward to seeing what new developments arise from their groundbreaking new venture.
